For generations Loregokish culture worships the red crystals amongst their lands, called Heartstones. Nobody understands why they garner so much attention, but still they look to the night sky, wishing more would descend.
Meateor Madness
Unfortunately, the universe must have heard them as thousands of fiery meteors suddenly come crashing down, killing millions. They are soon discovered to possess an energy within them that can be harnessed and used for things such as healing, construction, weapons enchantment and later, body part enhancement (although that is later outlawed). The increase in these miraculous stones seems to usher in a golden age of peace and prosperity upon the world of Loregok, provided no one uses the Heartstones to bring eternal misery...

Grimwok, He Who Brings Eternal Misery
Grimwok is the first to use the Heartstones for personal gain. Consolidating the Heartstone power for himself, Grimwok creates an "anti-content" field over Loregok. This protective bubble stops all forms of entertainment, including King of Meat. Society collapses, despair reigns, and Contenders and fans suffer through these Meatless days. On the bright side, all influencers during that time perish.

Karen, Guardian of the Queue
During the dark times of Grimwok, standing in lines has become one of the alternative, desperate forms of entertainment. Karen, newly appointed Queue Enforcement Officer, doesn't recognise a passing Grimwok as He Who Brings Eternal Misery, and points him to the end of her line. When a large and particularly sharp Heartstone falls on Grimwok, it is literally the end of the line for him and the restart of King of Meat! All Hail Karen, Guardian of the Queue!
